Grounded

Whenever I feel over-stimulated or unsettled in my energy field, I know it is time to get myself grounded and centered. Ungrounded, I can become so scattered, stressed and tense that I can’t get anything done and in the worst case scenario accidents occur. And I don’t practice certain types of magick, or conduct rituals in ungrounded states because magick is focused energy and in order to move it in powerful ways, with desired outcomes, one must be balanced. Experience has taught me to use the KISS method (keep it super simple) to get myself realigned.

I’m sure some of you have found yourselves in this position from time to time. You may find yourself going in circles and you can’t get a damn thing done cause you just can’t focus. Not to say that one must be grounded all the time, sometimes it’s very pleasant and healing to have out of the body experiences where one is soaring safely through the cosmos like in a healing session, or when engaging in some astral out of body practices, or dream work. Aside from those instances, it’s a good thing to be grounded.

I want to share with you some of my favorite methods for grounding. They are easy, quick and super simple. My personal favorites are to go hug a tree, pet my dog or cat, sit on mother earth, or hold a crystal in my hands. Just physically touching something, picking up the energy of it, allows me to settle into myself, as I focus upon what is in my hands or my arms.

Smells help also, especially the smell of the intertidal areas of the Atlantic Ocean. The pungent smell brings me to my center and when coupled with seeing distant waves splashing up against the rocky coast, my sense of sight also aids me. My favorite strong smells include essential oils, incense, decaying leaves and fragrant flowers.

Hearing the rhythmic beating of a drum helps. I feel it very strongly in my root chakra. But even repetitive clapping or finger snapping can do the same thing although not as pleasurable to me as beating a drum.

Eating or drinking water can be helpful as can walking in the woods or by any water body, as well as safely walking barefoot around my own gardens or grassy areas. Lastly, breath work is also very beneficial for grounding and rewarding in various ways, more on that in another post.

So there you have it, some of my favorite ways to ground.

blessed be
