Moon Watch: New Moon in Gemini
On June 18th, near Litha, (the Summer Solstice), we will have a new moon in the last few degrees of Gemini. So let’s talk about New Moons. I love New Moon Astrology, by author/astrologer, Jan Spiller. Spiller is now in Summerland but her legacy lives on as does her astrological expertise, kept alive by a devoted group of colleagues and supporters. Spiller is all about New Moon Wishes! New Moons occur when the sun and moon, also known as the Luminaries in astrology, are in a tight embrace in the sky.
Astrologically, New Moons are associated with new beginnings. So every New Moon is an opportunity to usher in something NEW. And every Full Moon is a culmination point, oftentimes a letting go. I like to think of it this way; every New Moon I am starting up a brand new batch of “brew” in my magical cauldron. I have a new recipe (dream/desire) that I am wanting to create and its “flavor” is based upon the astrological sign that the New Moon is embracing.
On the 18th of June, the New Moon will be “flavored” by GEMINI, so when it comes to my “brew” recipe (aka my New Moon ritual), it will embrace Gemini themes. So I’ll create a New Moon batch of “brew” that encompasses themes like: learning, communication, understanding the different ways people think, perhaps short distance travels or trips I wish to take, interacting with my siblings, enjoying the moment, writing, learning something new that I am curious about, or thinking about my business (commerce). In terms of physical health, I may focus on the Gemini ruled areas of the body which include: the nervous system, lungs, shoulders, arms and hands. Any one or several of these themes will be stirred into my magical cauldron/ritual, with clear intention, love and intelligence as I undertake this New Moon Journey.
When it comes to New Moon wishing, Spiller says wishes can be made up to 48 hours after a New Moon but are most potent the first 8 hours afterward. So let’s go for it--New Moon wishes for June 18th. The New Moon is exact on the east coast at 12:37AM at 26 degrees and 44 minutes in Gemini, late degrees of Gemini, (shortly the Moon will be moving into the sign of Cancer). What do you consider worth wishing for when the New Moon is in the sign of the Twin? Gemini, that excitable, silver-streak of an air sign ruled by Mercury, the cosmic trickster, psychopomp, overseer of commerce, lover of speed, seeker of information, sibling, connector and big time communicator, whose "home" is in the 3rd house of the zodiac. A mutable, changeable, variable house that according to Hellenistic (a tradition of astrology that was practiced in the Mediterranean region from the first century BCE to the seventh century CE) Astrology was considered to be the place of the “Goddess”, which includes religious observance, worship, sacred places, temples, priests and priestesses and associated with divination and dreams.
Gemini’s house placement may not be in the third house of your natal chart, but nonetheless, it lives somewhere in your chart thus somewhere in YOU. Work your New Moon Ritual. No matter how simple or complex, integrate Gemini themes to conjure up a new energy helping you in your life journey.
Maybe you’ve been feeling too anxious, nervous or indecisive? These overactive Gemini processes can be relieved with a New Moon Ritual that invites peace, relaxation and a new practice of deep breathing exercises. Find what works for you.
The NEW MOON IS BECKONING YOU.
Here’s a chant by Scandinavian singer/songwriter Flia on TikTok that may resonate with you at this time or at the time of any New Moon. I love her spiritual music:
“New Moon, New Me, I AM Planting New Seeds.
New Moon, New Me, New Energy.”
