Pluto, Power, Struggle and Change
Planet Pluto discovered on February 18,1930 by the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona was reclassified in 2006 to a dwarf planet. How could they demote Pluto, some railed, but dwarf or otherwise, Pluto, named after the Roman god of the underworld also known as Hades packs a powerful punch. This small but mighty celestial energy is associated with death, power, the shadowy underworld, all hidden things, in addition to the primitive, instinctive and unregenerate side of nature. But in spite of all this death, Pluto also paves the way for rebirth and regeneration.
The otherworldly Pluto has five moons and all their names are associated with the underworld. Consider Charon, who in Greek mythology is the ferryman or psychopomp who carries the newly deceased souls across the River Styx which divides the living world from the world of the dead. Hydra is a serpent monster with nine heads. Nix is the goddess of darkness and night. Kerberos also known as Cerberus is the humongous three-headed hound which guards the gates of hell. There you have it, the five moons of Pluto: Charon, Styx, Hydra, Nix and Kerberos along with their very brief mythologies.
Names are important, they carry an energy, a vibration and with all this plutonian energy revolving around death and the underworld, it’s no wonder that most people are filled with fear or terror during a plutonian transit. Incidentally, you don’t have to believe in astrology to experience this. With or without astrology you know when you are in a plutonian cycle. Your life and the circumstances around it exemplify it. You’re living the restructuring in some sector of your life and the more you try to hold onto the old the more Pluto slowly but surely burns it away. You can’t escape no matter how hard you fight, no matter how strong you are. It's better to surrender to this god and let yourself be stripped of what you truly must release. You can’t beat Pluto’s power and the harder you fight the more tired you become. Yet if Pluto aligns his power with you, you will succeed. If Pluto is against you, surrender and learn your lesson. There’s nothing superficial about Pluto transits. This is when shit gets real.
Pluto transits oftentimes do bring us into contact with death, sometimes literally but more often psychologically. Often during a Pluto transit something is being burned away, maybe it’s a belief we have that no longer supports us, maybe it’s an intense unhealthy relationship that needs to end. Usually anything in which we have drawn our identity from may have to die to make room for something new to take form. You see, Pluto doesn’t destroy for the fun of destroying. Pluto takes something away but something new will be rebirthed.
The value of knowing about an upcoming Pluto transit allows one to consider the best way to use the transit constructively. Remember forewarned is forearmed? And also to understand that when an outer planet like Pluto hits a chart it is definitely paving the way for CHANGE.
America is going to hit its Pluto return in February of 2022. It’s already upon us even though Pluto currently in Capricorn is not yet at 27 degrees, we are feeling the energies. It will have an impact on us collectively as well as personally for many. In America’s chart Pluto is in the second house of what we value, so the themes will most likely center around our value systems. Some astrologers have argued that America may be fighting for her very soul as we undergo upcoming tumult and deep rooted change. Some things from the underworld will no doubt be dredged up. Secrets unearthed and some systems destroyed to be reassembled in a new way down the road.
It’s important to remember that Pluto is not just an annihilator or destroyer but also a rebirther. Things may get messy but power abused can be ultimately taken down. What will this mean for the United States? I think it will mean major changes ultimately leading to renewal. America will have to come to terms with some elements that will be difficult to face, making it a traumatic time for the nation and it will no doubt have a ripple effect upon the entire world. I’m going to vote for a quantum leap forward in the consciousness of all Americans.
I’m hoping for Galactic Citizenship wherein we live like everything and everyone is connected as the quantum physicists have been saying all along. That doesn’t mean we have to all agree or be besties, people come in all flavors and I’m good with that. What about you?
